Today in History

1964 New Zealand’s Last Electric Tram Trip

Tram no. 252, displaying the message ‘end of the line’ and driven by Wellington Mayor Frank Kitts, travelled from Thorndon to Newtown zoo. Large crowds lined the streets to witness the end of electric trams in New Zealand.

Quote of the Week

Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children.” Charles R. Swindoll

Welcome

Hello everyone, welcome back to Term 2.  It is magnificent to see all your smiling children back at school, rested and ready to go.  I trust that everyone had an enjoyable break with your children and got to enjoy some quality time together.  As we enter the winter terms it is important to remember some handy tips for keeping your children healthy and ready for school.  Things such as encouraging your child to wear layers, so they can add and remove as the weather changes throughout the day.  Shoes and socks to keep feet warm, slippers are fine for inside the classroom if your child wants to bring them for indoor only use.  All our juniors have a woolen hat that was kindly donated last term.  Seniors are welcome to bring ones from home.  Also, please remember that if your child is unwell, particularly with a cold, flu or vomiting, we ask that you keep them home until they are physically ready to return to school.  This is because an early return often results in a relapse or gems are spread unnecessarily amongst classmates.  We understand that this can be a disruption to your normal routine, but it is for the benefit of our whole school community that we all adhere to this please.

Welcome to Motumaoho School

On behalf of us all here we wish to extend a warm welcome to our newest pupil – Isabel George and her family. Isabel is 5 years old and joins us in Room 1.

Friday’s Lunch

It’s ‘Pie Day Friday’ this week for $1.50. We will have a break from ice blocks over the winter terms.

Netball

The 2018 season gets underway this week with a number of our students taking part.  Due to the nature of the competition this year our players are mixing with other schools to form teams.  We wish them all the best of luck for their games and trust they will learn new skills, make some new friends and have lots of FUN.  To everyone else playing other codes for clubs, we wish you a happy and enjoyable season too.

Kickstart to School

Just a reminder that Mrs. Hickford is starting up the kickstart to school program this coming Friday between 8:30am – 10:00am.  If you have friends or family that you think may be interested, please let them know.  We currently have 5 children attending and would have space for a maximum of 10.

Sport at Lunchtime

Currently we have a lot of children playing Hockey on the turf at lunchtimes.  This is great to see. We do ask please, that children playing have shoes and socks to limit sore feet.

School Vision Survey

Thank you to the people who have taken time to complete the survey.  It will remain open until the end of the week for further entries. Once it closes on Friday we will continue to move ahead with the ‘re-visioning’ of our school.  It is an exciting process, but too complex to write in this newsletter.  If you would like to know more about it, please feel free to come and see me (Justin Bertrand) for further information, I’d be excited to share.  The survey can be found at  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MTFKWJ3  or you can text me for the link straight to your smart device or computer.

Kind regards

Justin and staff.
