Our New School Values
Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. These three values are known as our 3 R’s. Staff and children have been brainstorming and discussing what our values mean to us and how we can work together to achieve these in class and out of the classroom.
Key Competency Focus for Term 1
Participating and contributing:
- Leadership activities
- Including others
- Showing responsibility through thoughts and actions
Last Friday was our first assembly for 2019. Assembly will be on a Friday at 1.45pm. At these assemblies it will be an opportunity for children to share their learning for the week through work samples. Our senior leaders will lead the assembly as part of their leadership development. It is important that our older children have this opportunity of speaking to an audience as this quality will support them in building confidence through public speaking.
Class awards, the 3 R’s draw and Secret Spotter will be given out for the week. This coming Friday we will have a huge accouncement to make in regard to a very special award that will become a weekly ritual at assembly. I can’t wait for this!
We are currently in the process of finding out who would like to join the PTA. We will be holding a meeting after school to gauge interest at 2:45pm Wednesday 20thFebruary. Please come along if you want to be a part of our Motumaoho School PTA.
The Medical Officer of Health has informed us there have been a few cases of Measles in the region over the last couple of weeks. (10 in total)
We are legally required to keep a register of immunisations for our students (especially vaccination status for Measles.) We will be checking our student records we hold currently, but please provide us with up to date immunisation certificates if we don’t currently have the information and request these from you.
Students with unknown Measles vaccination status will be excluded from school for up to 14 days if there is a case in the school. Students must have evidence of 2 Measles vaccinations before they can return.
Children have been issued with their school bucket hat. Please look after this hat and leave at school, as all children must wear their hat to play outside at break times. We have sun screen at school for children to apply before they go out to play. We request that clothing that covers shoulders is also worn. Thank you for helping us be sun smart at Motumaoho School.
Our pool is up and running so please send your child with their togs and a towel every day. I know the children have already been in the pool and the joy on their faces when they get to go is priceless, especially on such hot days.
The Sanitarium Weet-Bix Tryathlon is being held this Sunday, 17th of February at the University Fields, Hamilton East. You have 1 day left to enter if you are keen! Go to https://tryathlon.co.nz/locations/hamilton/
We require helpers for ‘Chicken Chucking’ next week. If you are available Monday or Tuesday from 11:15am until approximately 2pm, please contact Angela in the office. It would be great to see some new parents come along and see what this is all about! It’s not hard work, just a few hours of your time to help unload trucks of baby chickens into the sheds. Pre-schoolers are very welcome. Our school benefits hugely from this – it’s our main fundraiser and comes around every 8 weeks.
Website, School Facebook, fortnightly Newsletter and Skool Loop App
The school website is regularly updated with information about upcoming events and all events will be posted in the online calendar which will show up under Upcoming Events. Please use this site, our Facebook page, Skool Loop App and the newsletters to keep up with school events and notices.
At the end of last year there were items left at school. Please have a look to see if any of these belong to your child.
We will shortly send home families accounts. We request these accounts are settled as soon as possible please. Any outstanding amounts from last year MUST be addressed as a matter of urgency. You are more than welcome to set up a regular automatic payment which some families already have and works well. This helps keep on top of costs that arise and is monitored and applied to your account. See Angela in the office for school account details or you can find our account number on the bottom of your statements.
