Dear parents, families and whanau,
Kia ora koutau katoa,
I can’t believe we are already over halfway through Term 1! This term, participating and contributing is our key competency focus. Our learners are making the most of the opportunities presented within the classroom and outside of the classroom. For our seniors (Year 5 and Year 6) as part of their participating and contributing focus they are involved in a range of leadership opportunities such as; the Team Energise leadership day, leading assemblies, Enviro-agents and attending the National Young Leaders day. The qualities and skills they learn from these experiences will be very valuable.
Special thank you must go to our PTA who are a hardworking and dedicated group. They have kindly donated us funds to support our school with learning resources and budgeting costs.
Team Energise Leadership Day
Our Year 5 and Year 6 learners attended the Team Energise leadership day at Campbell Park yesterday. Our learners worked in a team on a range of challenging and team related tasks. Days like these a very important for our learners as they are great opportunities to learn outside of the classroom setting. The skills and qualities learnt on these leadership days are valuable when brought back to school and role modelled for the others.

Kua Tae Te Wa – It’s Time to Campaign. The campaign aims to free teachers to teach and principals to lead by getting additional support and staff that schools need. This is a nationwide campaign and we would appreciate your support.
On Tuesday the 19thof March, teachers will be attending a NZEI paid union meeting. Our teachers are union members and legally entitled to attend two paid meetings annually. Our school will be closed at 12.30pm. In order to support all our teachers and schools nationwide, we would appreciate you making arrangements to pick up your child or children at 12.30pm.

We are holding our school Tryathlon next Friday at 5:30 which will follow with a BBQ. This is a great way to catch up with our families or meet new ones who we have welcomed to school this year. Could we please ask for our Room 2 families to bring a dessert and our Room 1 families to bring a salad. One dish per family, thank you. Sausages and chips will be supplied.
Thank you to all of those who took the time to fill in a parent survey. These will be collated and will support us in the strategic direction of our school. The winner of the chocolates will be announced at Friday’s assembly.

Gumboot Up on Friday 5 April!
Gumboot Friday is a new initiative by New Zealander of the Year, Mike King, and ‘I Am Hope’ who are aiming to raise $2 million for kids who need some mental health support.
At Motumaoho School we’re asking our learners, our teachers and parents to wear gumboots to school in support of Gumboot Friday. Put your gumboots on and bring along a gold coin donation (if you can). All funds raised on the day will help provide free counselling to kids who need it. We will also hand out ice blocks to those who bring along a gold coin, however as mentioned above, all money will be donated to the cause.
Please encourage your friends, family and community to #GumbootUpNZ on 5 April! You can find out more about Gumboot Friday at www.iamhope.org.nz/gumbootfriday
Is there any of our learners interested in playing netball this season? We have joined with other schools in the past – last year was Kiwitahi, as we don’t have enough players to form a school team. Please let Mr Otto or Mrs Wainwright know if you want to register for netball and we will try to find a team for you to join. Depending on the Year level, there is a fee for the season of approximately $25 – $35 per player.
If anyone does have a child keen to play, and as a parent you are interested in being a netball representative/co-ordinator for our school, please let us know also. There is a Junior netball meeting held on Monday 18th at 6pm at the netball pavilion in town. See Angela in the office for more details.
Wheels Day Friday
On Fridays our learners can bring bikes, scooters, skateboards or skates to use during the breaks, however helmets and any other safety gear MUST be worn.
There are still outstanding accounts from last year. Please settle these as a matter of urgency as our school has already had to cover all costs from last year and our financials need to reflect the current year which we have budgeted for. We ask for you to keep accounts current and at the very least, settled before the end of each term, thank you.
This years fees are being invoiced shortly. We are just finalising a few things before costs are confirmed.
We often update our Facebook page with photos of our Motumaoho learners in action. We do this as it’s a great opportunity to show our community the amazing things our learners are doing.
If you know of any parent or parents who have a child turning five soon or are thinking of making a change with where they send their child, please let them know we have places available in both of our classrooms. Direct them to me please for information about our school to help them make an informed decision.
Phillip Otto and staff.
