Dear parents, families and whanau,
Kia ora koutau katoa,
Our learners and staff are well into Term 2 now. Members in our senior class have done an outstanding job with their KWL (Know-What-Learnt) research projects. The evidence from these projects show that our learners can work independently through an inquiry process where they can make decisions on what they would like to know about their chosen topic and present this new knowledge learnt in a project form that is engaging for the audience. Well done to those who presented at assembly last week. In Room 2 our learners are working on their blend sounds and showing this through their voice and actions in this weeks Big Book ‘Hattie and Tatty and the Greedy Gull’. Excellent progress is being made in their place value work in mathematics.
The weather is feeling a lot colder now and we encourage you to ensure your child is dressed appropriately in warm clothing and footwear please.

Reading with Rotary/Paper Plus Award
Savannah is our Reading with Rotary recipient for last term and was awarded a Paper Plus voucher. Savannah has made good progress with her reading due to her hardworking and positive attitude towards her reading. Congratulations Savannah!
Term 2 Science Learning
Science experiments that focus on the physical world of the science curriculum have continued. Our learners made ‘quicksand’ with cornflour and water.
On Tuesday the 14thof May our Yr 5 and Yr 6 learners attended the National Young Leaders Day at Claudelands Arena. This event is part of our senior leadership programme where our seniors get the opportunity to listen to inspiration speakers and learn new ideas about how to lead people. All our learners had a very positive experience.
We have made an addition to our website by adding a Room 1 and Room 2 tab. Please follow to see current learning that is happening in our classrooms.
Kua Tae Te Wa – It’s Time to Campaign. The campaign aims to free teachers to teach and principals to lead by getting additional support and staff that schools need. This is a nationwide campaign and we would appreciate your support. The strike day is proposed for the Wednesday the 29thMay. As a result there is no school on this day. If there is a change and a strike is not required we will inform you as soon as possible.
Family accounts were sent home yesterday. We appreciate these being kept up-to-date please. You are more than welcome to set up a regular automatic payment if this is easier to manage your account.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for the outstanding contribution she has made to our school and to all our learners. Katie has made a real difference to the lives of all our learners who have attended Motumaoho School. We wish her all the best with her family on her new adventures and she will be sorely missed by all.
On Monday the 27th May Anna Dewhurst will replace Katie. Anna has already this year done a fantastic job relieving as a teaching assistant and building positive relationships with our learners. We look forward to her starting very soon.
If you know of any parent or parents who have a child turning five soon or are thinking of making a change with where they send their child, please let them know we have places available in both of our classrooms. Direct them to me please for information about our school to help them make an informed decision.
