Dear parents, families and whanau,
Kia ora koutau katoa,
Wow we are in Week 4 already! Our learners have settled into school well this term and we look forward to lots of exciting things throughout the rest of the term. Our Kickstart programme for pre-schoolers has also begun in Room 2 and I’d like to acknowledge the work Mrs Henderson is doing to implement this programme with the support of our Learning Assistants Maree and Ana. Thank you to you all.
Our PTA plays an important and active role supporting the school with fundraising and you will see they are holding their first meeting of the year this afternoon at 2pm here at school. All welcome.
School Staff for 2021
Angela Wainwright – Office Administrator
Angela Henderson – Room 2 (Years 0-2 Teacher)
Felicity Roberts – Room 1 and Principal Release (Years 3-6 Teacher)
Maree Moyce – Teaching Assistant
Ana Tolovaa – Teaching Assistant and Cleaner
Phillip Otto – Principal and Room 1 (Year 3-6 Teacher)
Continuing our School Values
Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and now ’Service’. As our learners, staff and parents have worked hard to role model our values over the past 2 years we are ready to introduce our new value of ’Service’ – Staff and our learners will be brainstorming and discussing what our new value means to us and how we can work together to achieve this. Thanks for supporting our 3RS.
Board of Trustees Vacancy
A position on our Board of Trustees has become available. Please see advertisement at the end of this newsletter for more information.
This Friday will be our first assembly for 2021. Assembly will start at 1.45pm. At these assemblies there is an opportunity for our learners to share their learning for the week through work samples. Our senior leaders will lead the assembly as part of their leadership development. It is important that our older children have this opportunity of speaking to an audience as this quality will support them in building confidence through public speaking.
Class awards, the 3 RS recipient and our Secret Spotter will be given out at assembly. We encourage our families to attend – all welcome!
As mentioned, the PTA are holding their first meeting today at school at 2pm. If you are keen to support the school this way or just want to see what it is all about, please come along. You may even have some exciting fundraising ideas for 2021! All welcome.
Vision and Hearing Checks in School
On Monday 1st March a Vision and Hearing Technician from Community and Southern Rural Health will be at school carrying out checks on children who may not have completed their B4 School check or following up children for a number of reasons. Coming home today is a letter from the Waikato District Health Board that explains the testing further. Not all children are tested, but if you do not want your child tested please contact the school and let us know, thank you.
Teacher Only Days for 2021
As notified last year, for the current Teacher Collective Agreement the Ministry have allocated 8 Teacher Only Days to be used by the end of the agreement which is in 15 months time. These days are to support our teachers with their workload and provide time for Professional Development. Last year, we did not take any of those allocated days due to the already unsettled year relating to Covid 19. We have aligned our days with the Intermediate to lessen any disruption for families.
|Term 1||Thursday 1st April|
|Term 2||Friday 4th June, Monday 21st June|
|Term 3||Friday 10th September|
|Term 4||Monday 8th November|
Our learners have been issued with their school bucket hat which are to be worn in Terms 1 and 4. Please look after this hat and leave at school, as all our learners must wear their hat to play outside at break times. Caps are not adequate protection so please keep these at home. We also have sun screen at school for children to apply before they go out to play but ask for families to apply sunblock to their children before coming to school too. We request that clothing which covers shoulders is also worn. Thank you for helping us be sun smart at Motumaoho School.
Please continue to send you child or children to school with their togs and a towel every day. Our learners have already been in the pool and the enjoyment on their faces is great to see especially on these hot days we have had.
School Polo Shirts
A reminder we have school polo shirts available to purchase for $25 (new) or $10 (second hand). These are not compulsory but we encourage our learners to purchase one for school trips and events. We look smart and present well while attending activities such as sports days outside of school when we are in our ‘uniform’. Our learners are also welcome to wear these any day at school. Please see Angela in the office if you would like to purchase a polo shirt for your child.
Website, School Facebook, fortnightly Newsletter and Skool Loop App
The school website is regularly updated with information about upcoming events. All events will be posted in the online calendar which will show up under Upcoming Events. Please use this site, our Facebook page, Skool Loop App and the newsletters to keep up with school events and notices. Our school newsletter is sent home every fortnight on a Wednesday which is also uploaded to our Facebook page, Skool Loop App and of course the website. The office will often send group texts out for urgent reminders.
Absentees and Signing in/out
Please contact the school as soon as possible if your child is absent from school. We require a reason for their absence and will follow these up if we have no information from you. You can phone, text or use the Skool Loop app to report an absentee.
Also, if your child is late to school or you are collecting them for an appointment before school finishes, we require you to report to the office and sign your child in or out please. Please remember if you have arranged another parent or family member to pick up your child from school, you must let one of our staff know. Please do not send this information in via your children, thank you.
School Office hours are:
Monday 8:15am – 2:30pm
Tuesday 8:15am – 12:30pm
Wednesday 8:15am – 2:30pm
Thursday 8:15am – 12:30pm
We often have a number of items left behind at school that are not claimed. Please name your child’s clothing so we can return these to the correct owner, thank you.
