Principal’s Message

Dear parents, families and whanau,

Kia ora koutau katoa,

This term, participating and contributing is a focus for Term 1. Our learners are making the most of the opportunities presented within the classroom and outside of the classroom. Here is an update from each class:

Room 2 learners are enjoying having Ana and Maree in class to listen to their reading and support them in all other curriculum areas. The Year 2 children are working with Maree to develop the level of detail in their writing resulting in exciting use of adjectives, verbs and personal voice.

Thank you to the families who are supporting their child with reading and spelling each evening. The Friday weekly spelling check ups show good progress is being made. It is also pleasing to see spelling words being transferred into their reading and writing. Number work is targeted to your child’s level and carried out daily. Encouraging counting in every day settings is a fun way to support your child. Some ideas is to try counting red cars, brick houses, animals letterboxes etc. while travelling in the car.

Drumming is a wonderful way to develop co-ordination while learning to laugh at ourselves. Your children will delight you with the beats they have learned to the song “We will Rock You” by Queen!

In Room 1 learning is in full swing. Learners have demonstrated flexibility and resilience in light of the recent Covid 19 Alert level changes. In spelling the learners are working through their essential lists, working on Steps programme and are learning spelling patterns. In reading they have been working on making connections and predictions. They’re currently focusing on questioning. In writing, the learners have been working on editing, adding adjectives, verbs and adverbs to their writing and now they’re writing similes.
For mathematics our focus has been on learning our times tables and learning about number patterns and sequencing. For our topic we’ve been exploring nature in the gully focussing on insect and plant identification.

Assembly

Our next assembly is this Friday. Assembly will start at 1.45pm. At these assemblies it will be an opportunity for our learners to share their learning for the week through work samples. Our senior will lead the assembly as part of their leadership development.

School Board of Trustees

Our strategic plan for 2021 – 2023 focuses on the following;

  • To accelerate all our learners achievement in relation to equity and excellence.
  • To grow community involvement.
  • To recognise the importance of taking responsibility for looking after our environment, well-being and our infrastructure.

Our next board meeting is Monday the 29th March starting at 6pm. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Lisa Healy for the work she has done on our Board of Trustees over the past two years. She has been our secretary for a large part of that time.
