Kia Ora Koutou,

Thank you to all of those who came along to our Cross Country/ Matariki Celebration.   It was lovely to meet some people I had not met before and there was a lot of fantastic food and conversation to be shared by all. Thank you for your contribution of kai for our lunch.  It was a wonderful way to wrap up our learning during Term 2. 

As the colder months continue, please ensure your children come to school with extra layers of clothing. During break times, students play outside, and it can get very chilly. Having additional clothing can also be helpful in case they get wet.

Our goal is to keep all students warm, healthy, and protected from winter illnesses. Thank you for your continued support!

On Tuesday morning we welcomed visitors from Paper Plus, Rotary and the Kiwanis who came to present some of our spectacular learners and readers certificates for their hard work.

Congratulations to Blake and Esther (Reading with Rotary), Waiparemoa and Qiyana (Terrific Kids). We are so proud of you all.

The children enjoyed having lots of whaanau in the school to watch their run and were certainly very proud of themselves for completing the Cross Country with such style. Congratulations to our  Cross Country winners:

Over the Matariki long weekend a new bell and fire response system was installed in our school. We are sad to be saying farewell to our trusty brass bell but will enjoy being able to rely on an automated system to keep us on time in the future. We intend to have some fire and emergency drills next term to ensure we are ready to respond if needed.

School reports will be sent home on Friday of the first week of Term 3. The following week we have set aside a couple of afternoons to meet with you to discuss your child’s report and we felt that to have a short time between distributing the reports and meeting to discuss them could be useful.

Teachers will be available after school on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 July to discuss your child’s learning.

Interview times will be set up on our Skool Loop app where you will be able to book a time that suits. Bookings will be open after the holidays and we will send a reminder during week 1.

It’s hard to believe how quickly the term has flown by! Room Pīwakawaka has been working incredibly hard - we have been continuing our learning of letter sounds and are proud of the progress our students are making in reading, writing and maths.

We’ve also had some fantastic experiences this term, including our Trees for Survival planting day, cross country, EnviroWaste education visits, and preparing delicious food for our Matariki feast.

Throughout our final week, our learning continues while we have been enjoying arts and crafts, and celebrating all the amazing progress our tamariki have made. We’ll also be receiving our Duffy books on Friday—perfect for some holiday reading!

We have enjoyed looking back on this term and feel excited to be heading into the second half of the year after a break. 

Cross country was a special day and a strong reminder about how practice leads to success.  While Dylan ran the furthest distance, every single student made giant strides towards their personal goal.  

Our learning focus this term has been  about the environment and sustainability. Vicki from ZeroWaste came and helped us set up a worm farm.  It's early days yet and there's only 300 of them but soon they'll be able to reduce the amount of food scraps our class produces.  We also had a visit to a goat farm to plant some trees which our school had raised as part of the Trees for Survival programme.  One of our school values is service and it felt good to be working in the environment for the future.  It was so strange to be eating our lunch watched by pens of very curious goats! 

Finally, we welcomed Whaea Annie to our class and have been getting to know all about her.  We really appreciate her creativity and the way she uses art to promote learning.
